Help is available By Ann Bednarz Getting a handle on what level of application performance end users are experiencing is a tricky science, particularly with so many applications designed for a LAN now being delivered over the WAN. One of the challenges is collecting the right data from multiple sources and putting it together to provide a clear picture of what’s influencing application response times. For example, IT managers need to be able to measure end-to-end response time and traffic flows, as well as be able to isolate problems with an application, server or network. Factors such as how a particular application protocol behaves can play as much a role as network conditions including latency, packet loss, jitter and throughput. Untangling any performance issues requires information about all these parameters, and Network World has a cool new Buyer's Guide that can help identify the right product for the job.
