Joe -- It's beyond frustrating that a minority in the Senate ignored something most Americans support. The fact is that seven out of 10 Americans support raising the minimum wage in this country. But 41 senators blocked a bill that would have done just that. Now's the time to show we're not backing down. That's why OFA volunteers across the country are gathering signatures on a nationwide petition for raising the minimum wage. Folks are getting together this Monday in Chicago. Can you make it? Here are the details: What: Minimum wage petition gathering in Chicago Where: Lunt and Ravenswood entrance Chicago, IL 60626 When: Monday, May 19th 6:00 am When members of Congress stand in the way of increasing the minimum wage, they're standing in the way of economic security for working families. A family of four supported by a full-time worker earning minimum wage makes $14,500 a year -- below the poverty line. Nearly two-thirds of workers earning the minimum wage or less are women. Not only that, more than 40 percent of women are the primary breadwinners in their families. Someone working a full-time job shouldn't raise their family in poverty or have to worry about how they're going to afford to put food on the table. We've got to demand better from our elected officials. It's time to give America a raise -- gathering petition signatures in your area is a great way to help.
