“...you should not run for president because tactically you can win. The questions you have to ask are why you're running for president and what will you do when you are president. You shouldn't run until you know the answers to those questions.” ― Joe Biden, Promises to Keep: On Life and Politics Will, In recent weeks, there has been a media firestorm covering the growing grassroots momentum behind a Joe Biden Presidential campaign in 2016. Across the nation, folks are intensely speculating about a question that no one thought was a possibility just 4 weeks ago. We asked a question when we started this organization: Will Joe Biden run for President? You have probably seen the debates on television and in newspapers across the country as to the merits of his third Presidential bid. Now we stand at a pivotal moment, weeks away from the August 1 deadline by which Joe will probably announce his decision. He knows the polling numbers. He can see that we are behind him. He realizes that we are aware of his family's desire for him to run. And he knows that the legacy of the Obama Administration that he fought so hard for is at stake in this election, and that he's the best person to carry that legacy forward. Some folks have said this "happy warrior" doesn't want to end his career on a third failed presidential bid. But we say to them, you don't know Joe. “My own father had always said the measure of a man wasn't how many times or how hard he got knocked down, but how fast he got back up.” Joe Biden is a man who doesn't fight just to win. He fights for us. And we believe he still has a lot of fight left. And if Joe Biden is true to his heart and to the promises he's made to all of us, it's going to be very hard for him to say no to the call for him to run for President. At Draft Biden, we know that Joe is at the precipice of a decision, so we're going to keep running full speed ahead. Earlier this week, we were proud to announce a new member of our national finance team, Shiva Sarram, who once raised nearly $400,000 at a single luncheon for Barack Obama. In South Carolina, we received a glowing endorsement from State Representative James Smith (D-Columbia), who said the Vice President enjoys a "deep and broad base of support in our state, where he is very much loved and supported. He will have an inspired campaign in South Carolina." Our matching campaign was so successful earlier this week, we have been offered another match opportunity! “To me this is the first principle of life, the foundational principle, and a lesson you can't learn at the foot of any wise man: Get up!" So let's get up. And let's get behind Joe. Thanks for all you do, Jon Cooper National Finance Chair Draft Biden 2016 |
