10 claims that scare security pros, 08/13/07: A child with a chocolate-smeared shirt says, "I didn't do it." The phone rings, and Mom assures you, "There's nothing to worry about." A systems administrator carrying a box of tapes says, "We'll have everything back up in a few minutes." Sometimes the first words you hear -- despite their distance from the truth -- tell you everything you need to know.

Study: Facebook users are easy targets for identity theft, 08/14/07: Users of the Facebook social-networking site are too gullible in giving up personal information, which could make them the targets of identity theft, according to Sophos research.

Unusual pump-and-dump spam run continues, 08/13/07: More spam made its way to inboxes Monday touting a small Florida company first hit by a massive pump-and-dump spam scam last week. The company has denied any responsibility for the junk mail that drove up its stock price, and said it will look at stockholder data in the hope that it can uncover who was behind the scheme.
