WEB IS NOW ENTIRELY DRIVEN BY ADVERTISING

Reality check: Although it was created as an information resource the
Internet "is being manipulated into an advertising vehicle," Search
Engine Strategies' vice president Kevin Ryan is quoted as saying in
Advertising makes the Web go 'round. And while most successful sites
still resemble an information agent, Neilsen/NetRatings now believes
total minutes spent on a site is the superior metric. Ultimately,
Ephraim Schwartz writes, "to state the obvious, everything you love
about using the World Wide Web is underwritten by advertising. End of
