Cisco adds security, monitoring to WAN optimization gear, 07/25/07: Cisco is introducing encryption of data as it sits on disks within its Wide-Area Application Services gear, making it impossible for thieves to make sense of the data even if they steal the drives. Cisco airs server management appliance, 07/25/07: Cisco introduced an appliance that lets servers be provisioned off storage on the network. California city connects with open-source networking, 07/25/07: The city of Madera, Calif., has spent the last year successfully running an open-source-based network as a replacement for one based on Cisco gear. The past 7 days on Cisco Subnet: Networkers roundup: Unless you were locked in the server room all week, you would know that Cisco held its annual Networkers bash in Anaheim, Calif. Gyrating dancers and rollerbladers warmed up the audience for John Chambers' keynote, and rockers KISS played at the afterparty. Oh, and some products were announced and tacky bags were handed out too. Reading the tea leaves: Should Linksys go away?: Chambers told a group of European journalists that the Linksys name will be disappear. Cisco Subnet's Channelguy doesn't think this decision, which has huge repercussions to Cisco's SMB strategy, will be that easy to carry out. Cisco outlines products affected by Java flaw: Cisco is urging users to update all applications and components that are vulnerable to a Java Secure Socket Extension (JSSE) flaw disclosed by Sun on July 10. |
