Windows Networking StrategiesThis newsletter is sponsored by Arsenal Digital SolutionsNetwork World's Windows Networking Strategies Newsletter, 07/04/07Quest's buy of ScriptLogic good news for Windows usersBy Dave KearnsA couple of companies that often grace this newsletter with their presence made an announcement a week or so ago, when . Quest Software purchased ScriptLogic Quest has featured prominently with us over the past six or seven years, since its acquisition of Fastlane Technologies, one of the leaders in Active Directory migration tools. A couple of years later it brought in Aelita with the latter's superior Windows server management tools.
Interestingly, at the time of the Aelita acquisition, I likened it to ScriptLogic’s purchase of Small Wonders.

Later on, Quest featured prominently again by acquiring Vintela, which provided tools to connect Linux users to Active Directory. ScriptLogic has always been my favorite scripting tool for Windows servers, providing the expertise to automate most server tasks, especially the mind-numbing repetitive ones. Based on Quest’s track record with its previous acquisitions, the ScriptLogic technologies and tools should, in a short time, be fully integrated into the Windows management line of products. The only fear I had was that ScriptLogic founder and the driving force behind its innovation, Brian Styles, might “take the money and run.” But he assures me, “Well the plan is to continue to operate and grow independently, as a subsidiary. So I am here and everything should remain relatively unchanged, only better.” That’s good news for Windows network managers! Another favorite of ours, NetPro, has just announced version 4.0 of its ChangeAuditor and SecurityManager products for Active Directory. They’re worth checking out.
