This week, it was clothing retailer The Gap that made headlines with a lost laptop. Are you seated? The laptop contained confidential and sensitive information on over 800,000 job applicants. Are you still sitting? The data was unencrypted. Go figure. In The Gap's defense, it was a 3rd-party contractor doing business for The Gap that lost the unencrypted data. But, The Gap is the one responsible to its customers and employees and they have an obligation to choose business partners that take that obligation as seriously as they do.
