Netbooks are the hardware trend of the day. In other words, they're cheap and they're selling like hotcakes. But I hear through back channels that vendors are having trouble "positioning" netbooks: How do they relate to full-size, full-power laptops? While I busy myself looking at the unboxing photos of the Motorola Aura and saying "oooh, shiny," here are a few smartphone security and bug items for you.

First in the crosshairs are Nokia users -- a big target -- who could get hit by the "Curse of Silence" exploit. Although it sounds like a James Bond movie, the attack prevents a long list of phones using Symbian S60 from receiving SMS messages.

iPhone 3G gets hacked; Android revs up

The New Year greeted us with some gifts -- most notably the yell0wsnow iPhone 3G unlock, which caused comment boards to light up on New Year's Eve. Of course, few iPhone 3G users will opt for the hack, which may be prudent given complaints of nothing happening or of iPhones ceasing to function.
