Converged infrastructure announcements from Mobile World Congress This week we continue discussing announcements from last week's Mobile World Congress, Sonus disclosed that it had a new IP-peering solution for mobile operators, and is now offering a fixed mobile convergence (FMC) alternative that provides session control at the application layer. Microsoft unveiled Windows Mobile 6.5, along with a service to synchronize content and contacts using the Internet. The slew of these and other announcements build on mobile "voice over packet" developments we followed at last year's Mobile World Congress. Today, we'll focus on Acme Packet's plans to enhance IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) support for wireless services, and about Nortel's continued support for carrier IP services with the release of new software for the Communication Server (CS) 2000. WebEx comes to Blackberry, Symbian, Windows Mobile smartphones For WebEx, first there was the iPhone and then the world. Cisco is releasing WebEx software for a whole slew of 3G smartphones, the company announced today at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Cisco has made its Web conferencing software available for the BlackBerry Bold, BlackBerry Curve 8900, and BlackBerry Storm from RIM, the Nokia E71, Nokia E75, Nokia N97, and other Nokia Eseries and Nseries phones, as well as the Samsung Blackjack II. Cisco: Mobile data traffic to grow 66-fold by 2013 A new report published by Cisco says that mobile Web traffic volume will double every year between now and 2013, when traffic will total roughly 2.2 million terabytes per month.
