Avaya's Aura a Cisco killer? The ability for organizations to communicate in multi-vendor, multi-site environments with ease and flexibility is essential. The direction of the convergence marketplace has proven that solutions designed around proprietary and single-system solutions are quickly becoming extinct. In late March, Avaya launched a new communications architecture strategy named Avaya Aura. Available globally by the end of this May, Avaya's forward-thinking strategy combines "voice, video, messaging, presence, Web applications and more to employees anywhere". Microsoft "Geneva" could be genius but skeptics abound Microsoft late Monday announced the second beta of its cloud identity management suite of servers, code-named Geneva. The Internet Sky Is Not Falling Last week our esteemed colleague from Nemertes Research Johna Till Johnson wrote that the Internet is in deep peril because: "IP itself is nearing end-of-life, with no ready alternative." To prevent what she describes as a looming crisis, Johna champions a radical new Internet architecture. Just as the sky did not fall on Chicken Little, the Internet sky is not about to fall on us. Some very, very, very large data warehouses In the course of my research, I'm running across some VERY large data warehouses. Several of them, especially in the web log/network event area, are in the multi-petabyte range. Perhaps most surprisingly, they're run on a broad range of data management software -- not just Teradata, but also Greenplum, Hadoop/Hive (which isn't even a DBMS!), Greenplum, and others. Poster on Chinese forum leaks next-gen iPhone specs As evidenced by the non-sensical Twitter rumor last week, it's easy to get caught up in the Apple rumor mill, but this one is too juicy to pass up. A forum poster on a Chinese Apple website recently published what appear to be the specs for Apple's upcoming iPhone model. If accurate, the next iPhone model should be a lot snappier.
