Be careful with the April/May 09 OCS R2 patches
From blogger Alex Lewis, Windows into Silicon Valley: Who knew no MSMQ could kill OCS? Enough alliteration. If you don't have MSMQ installed and you apply the April 2009 updates, patches will fail to install correctly.

Logins and Users - SQL Server security fundamentals
From blogger Brian Egler, SQL Server Strategies: I have worked with SQL Server for many years now, back to Sybase SQL Server days and there has always been confusion over logins and users. Even though they typically use the same name they are separate objects. Newcomers to SQL Server always seem to confuse the two.

Windows 7 to include Camtasia Studio video for documentation
From blogger Glenn Weadock, Windows Server 2008: Camtasia Studio, from TechSmith, allows the user to record a video of an operation in a fairly space-efficient format. (This technology is being licensed by Microsoft in Windows 7 for the new problem reporting tool.)

In SSMS 2008, Microsoft rectifies missing debug feature
From blogger Brian Egler, SQL Server Strategies: One of the great new features of SSMS 2008 is the new debug facility, a feature that went missing in SQL Server 2005. Also see SQL Server vastly improves file-level security.

Wipe out those old hard drives with confidence
From blogger Ron Barrett, A Better Windows World: Perhaps the oddest task we have to undertake as IT professionals is securely erasing hard drives. We spend so much time and effort on keeping the data, that when the time comes to remove it, it almost seems unnatural.

Microsoft warns of DirectX attack on XP, WS2003 in the wild
Attacks in the wild have already been seen for a vulnerability in DirectX for which Microsoft does not yet have a patch, Microsoft says. XP, Windows 2003 software are vulnerable, as are older versions of Windows (such as Windows Server 2000).

Windows 7 Speeds Browser Performance
It's a bit of a surprise but BetaNews.com is reporting their testing shows Windows 7 RC speeds up browser performance. IE specifically picks up the pace by about 12%. If this is due to the revamped TCP stack, we should see a speed up in other network applications, says blogger Mitchell Ashley.

SharePoint Users: Making Connections on LinkedIn and Facebook
From blogger Susan Hanley, Essential SharePoint: On June 26, I'll be speaking at the SharePoint Users Conference in Washington, D.C. but if you can't attend, there are many ways to virtually connect with the growing SharePoint community.
