Bosch Secures the Pharaoh’s Gold
The blockbuster traveling exhibit Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs displays more than 130 artifacts from the tombs of King Tut, and several of his relatives and 18th Dynasty (1555 B.C. to 1305 B.C.) contemporaries. Jeff Wyatt, vice president at Arts and Exhibitions International (AEI), says the exhibit’s peculiar security challenge was to put together a surveillance system to guard the priceless artifacts while also allowing millions of people to come close enough to examine the hieroglyphics on statuary that was too large to put in secure cases—people whose only credential would be a same-day ticket that cost less than a typical sporting event.
Adding to that challenge, the surveillance system needed to be able to break down quickly and re-deploy within weeks at distant venues. It had to be flexible enough to accommodate an exhibit that could be on multiple floors, feature different layouts, and vary in size from 14,000 to 20,000 square feet. And it had to integrate with other security technologies that included RFID tagging and highly sensitive motion and vibration detectors.
AEI chose Bosch Security System’s DiBos DVRs and a 40 Flexidome IP cameras.
