Today, we'll look back at the predictions we made a year ago to see how close we came with expectations for 2009, and in a week we'll look forward with some predictions for 2010. As we look back on 2009, we must admit it was filled with some pretty big surprises such as the breakup and sale of Nortel and the renewed FCC focus on net neutrality. Microsoft acquires Opalis and Sentillion
Microsoft is doing a bit of holiday shopping today. It announced two acquisitions, confirming the much-rumored purchase of network management company Opalis. It also announced an intent to buy health care ID management software maker, Sentillion. With these buys, Microsoft has acquired a mere four companies in 2009.

Internet Society invests in W3C
The Internet Society announced Friday that it was making a $2.5 million donation over the next three years to the World Wide Web Consortium, the premier standards-setting body for the Web.
