Spotlight Story HP will buy Palm for $1.2 billion Palm has a buyer: HP. And a pricetag: $1.2 billion, or $5.70 per share of Palm common stock. HP announced today it will acquire the struggling smartphone maker, as part of HP's Personal Systems Group. The transaction has been approved by the HP and Palm boards of directors. But what does the company's failing product line, in hardware and software, really offer? Palm for Sale? Any Takers! Palm for sale? That's the latest report from Bloomberg news which says the struggling maker of the Pre and Pixi phones is looking for offers. Up for the highest bid is also Palm's WebOS, the company's promising mobile operating system that never really took off with consumers. Will Palm's sale create a windfall for U2's Bono and partners? U2's Bono is part of the investment team for U.S.-based Elevation Partners, which has invested in Palm. News broke this week that Palm is looking for a buyer. Palm's software chief quits Michael Abbott, the head of Palm's software and services team, will leave the company at the end of next week, according to a regulatory filing Palm made on Friday.
