Novell: A lament over what could have been
Many folks are sad to see Novell being sold off to Attachmate. Cisco losing more steam in Layer 4-7
Third quarter Ethernet switching numbers are starting to trickle out and the only surprise might be how fast Cisco is fading in Layer 4-7. Cisco maintained its 72% share of the overall Ethernet switch market and even upped that by 2% from last year. But it's sliding in Layer 4-7. Read More

Of Coffee Houses and Code Communities
Brian Proffitt has a great article on the difference between communities and crowdsourcing and how companies still often get it wrong with respect to their community building by treating them as a group that will get things done. I came across a good model for this separation of ideas quite by accident. Read More

If Threatened With Arrest When Recording Video at TSA Checkpoints...
If you are flying and decide to turn on your phone to take video of TSA checkpoints, that is legal as long as you do not film the TSA's monitors, or interfere with or slow down the screening process. However, if you do videotape TSA checkpoints, then you should have the TSA public affairs (TSA's Office of Strategic Communications) number plugged into your phone. Read More

The Cold War: Then and now
When Dickie George of the National Security Agency says, "This is life and death and about our freedom and our way of life," he's not talking about the Soviet Union firing nuclear missiles at the U.S. or infiltrating our government with spies bent on subversion. He's talking about cyber criminals hacking into personal, business or government computers. Read More
