Register Now Cisco switching transition "poorly managed and timed" The product transition currently impacting Cisco's switching business was "poorly managed and timed" by the company, according to a bulletin issued this week by investment firm Oppenheimer & Co. As you recall, Cisco's switching business is down 7% in its fiscal second quarter, impacting profit margins and perhaps market share. This week's news that Sprint is finally going start selling a smartphone next month running Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 operating system, and reports that Verizon is expected follow suit, is good news for Microsoft's efforts to widen the distribution pipeline for the OS. But Microsoft's product strategy strikes me as somewhat timid, given that it still has only a handful of handset models.
