Cool Stuff about Cisco MediaNet
Robb and I were at Interop last week in Vegas taping a couple of episodes for TechWiseTV. (shameless plug: http://www.techwisetv.com) I haven't been to N+I in Vegas for five years. I went to N+I in India a few months back and that was the best show EVER! Yeah, I know it just called "Interop" but saying N+I makes me sound more old school cool. Kinda like; "Yeah me and Vint Cerf were chillin' at N+I... Read More

The Verdict: Either OpenFlow Matters a Lot, or Not at All
Unsurprisingly, the opinions on OpenFlow from the vendors at Interop were all over the map. However, since I did ask a bunch of people at the show about OpenFlow, I figure it's worth a post to summarize some of the more interesting responses. For those of you who hang out in the blog space to discuss Cisco certs, note that OpenFlow will not impact the Cisco cert paths for several years, if ever. But... Read More

A Couple of Interesting Uses of OpenFlow
At the beginning of Interop, I wrote a post that introduced the basics of OpenFlow. I promised to ask around and find out what problems different vendors are trying to solve using OpenFlow. This post highlights two cases: one you can order today from NEC America, and the other a case that's been tested at Stanford. NEC America's ProgrammableFlow Switch Read More

Interop 2011: Superfast switches everywhere
At Interop, I took a closer look at the HP optical backplane the HP Labs is working on and grew even more impressed. It was one of the biggest innovations I saw at the show this year. This will one day greatly speed up switches. Here's a video I took of the device (you will need to turn your volume up all the way to hear the video due to server noise on the floor at Interop). The gentleman from... Read More
