Tape's Evolving Data Storage Role
  Greg Schulz, StorageIO founder and author of the "The Green and Virtual Data Center", has written a whitepaper for Quantum that discusses how disk and tape are used together to protect customer data. There is no such thing as a data recession and no end in sight for the amount of data that will need to be stored and protected for longer periods of time. Organizations of all sizes are faced with a growing data footprint that results in more data to manage, protect and preserve for longer periods of time.

And the Survey Says...
Quantum surveyed nearly 2,000 IT professionals in North America as part of its annual backup survey. We looked at the adoption of cloud, types of storage infrastructure, software being used and the budget outlook for the next 12 months. Much of the data was positive - spending perception looks to be good and in line with an improved economic situation throughout 2011 and 2012. The 'cloud' hype is still beyond actual adoption according to the results with less than 10% either using or planning to adopt cloud storage in the near term. We also found that most company-wide data growth was around the 15% - 20% mark, on average, however some companies reported data growth much higher beyond 50%.
