Help New York invest in solar energy (and create jobs, too)

Organizing for Action
Joe --

It often feels like making real progress on climate change is a whole lot harder than it should be.

That's why OFA supporters are getting involved whenever we can to make an impact at the local level.

Right now, New Yorkers have a chance to do just that. The state Assembly is currently considering the New York Solar Bill, which the state Senate passed in late April and which will help fund clean, affordable energy across the state (and create jobs, too).

We're teaming up with the Vote Solar Initiative to deliver thousands of signatures directly to lawmakers in Albany tomorrow.

If that sounds like the kind of real, local change you can get behind, you should sign this petition today.

This bipartisan bill was introduced by Assemblyman Steve Englebright, a Democrat, and Senator George Maziarz, a Republican.

The idea is that by providing tax credits to businesses that sign up to use solar energy, it'll spur development and generate enough clean energy to power an estimated 400,000 homes in New York -- not to mention create thousands of local jobs related to project development and installation.

All in all, it would reduce carbon pollution -- one of the leading causes of climate change -- by 1.5 million tons.

What's really important is that this is an effort to tackle climate change by focusing on prevention, rather than clean-up or recovery. And there's a real shot of making this happen in New York.

Add your name to this petition -- and tell the Assembly that it's time:
