Joe -- Think about this: There is no federal law that consistently protects LGBT individuals from employment discrimination. In 29 states, there is no state-specific law, either -- and in 33 states, there are no protections for gender identity. It's 2013 -- OFA supporters are organizing to change that. The Employment Non-Discrimination Act, or ENDA, would make sure that no one can be legally discriminated against in the workplace just because of who you are or who you love. And it's up for a vote in the full Senate for the first time in 17 years. This is an issue so many of us are passionate about -- and this is our chance to make some real progress. OFA supporters across the country are taking action this week to voice our support for ENDA. Will you join in by calling Senator Kirk to say thanks for co-sponsoring ENDA today? Here's his number -- make sure you report back on how it goes: Senator Mark Kirk (202) 224-2854 Not sure what to say? Here's a great fact about why ENDA is so important: In 29 states, there are no state laws protecting gay Americans from being fired because of their sexual orientation. More than 77 percent of Americans support legislation like this -- and according to a recent poll, 43 percent of LGBT employees said they have experienced workplace discrimination. This is about standing up for what's right. Call Senator Kirk right now and thank him for supporting ENDA -- then let us know how the call went here: http://my.barackobama.com/ENDA-Call-Report-Back Thanks, Devin Devin Driscoll Organizing for Action ---------------- The other side will spend millions to maintain the status quo. We're fighting for change -- chip in $5 or more to support OFA today. | |
