I was so lucky to have insurance

Joe -- There are up to 129 million Americans living with some condition -- like a heart problem, or diabetes, or asthma, or even a pregnancy -- which an insurance company can use to deny them coverage or drop them from a plan. But on January 1st, 2014, that kind of discrimination against people with a pre-existing condition becomes illegal. If you're as excited, relieved, and thankful for that as I am, stand up for Obamacare today. I understand exactly how important this is because six years ago today, my doctor told me that I had breast cancer, and in an instant, I became one of those millions of Americans with a pre-existing condition. I was lucky to be insured at the time, and to have been consistently insured ever since. But millions of other Americans with pre-existing conditions from cancer to acne haven't been so lucky. And up until this point, there was always the chance that my personal circumstances could change. In less than a month, we'll all get some relief and some peace of mind. Thanks to Obamacare, discrimination against people with a pre-existing condition will be illegal -- no one will be denied coverage or face financial ruin trying to pay their medical bills.
