Joe -- When October's disastrous government shutdown ended, congressional leaders announced that a bipartisan conference committee would put together a long-term budget solution to make sure we avoid another self-imposed crisis. That committee is scheduled to announce their plan in the coming days -- Congress then has until January 15th to debate and pass a budget. The last time we were here, House Speaker Boehner let an extreme minority force a shutdown, costing our economy billions. That's when more than a million OFA supporters like you stood up and took action. Today, we're reminding Congress that we're not going to let that happen again. Before this debate begins, tell John Boehner and congressional leaders we're counting on them to work together to pass a smart budget that works for all Americans before the January deadline. There are a lot of reasons why our leaders in Washington need to come together to find some common-sense solutions. Emergency unemployment benefits are set to expire on December 28th -- meaning that, this holiday season, folks looking for jobs could lose their safety net. Another round of sequester cuts is set to take effect automatically, and they will be much harsher than this year's cuts, putting our economic recovery in danger. And if Congress doesn't pass a budget by January 15th, the government will shut down -- again. That's why right now, they need to know we're watching. Add your name and tell Speaker Boehner and congressional leaders to pass a sensible budget by the January 15th deadline: http://my.barackobama.com/Pass-A-Sensible-Budget Thanks -- more soon, Nico Nico Probst Director of Special Projects Organizing for Action ---------------- The other side will spend millions to maintain the status quo. We're fighting for change -- chip in $5 or more to support OFA today. | |
