Joe -- Last week, a group of 39 Senate Republicans voted to keep 1.7 million Americans out in the cold this year by once again refusing to renew emergency unemployment insurance. Even after senators on both sides came together to form a bipartisan solution, they fell one vote short. It makes the "no" vote from Illinois' own Sen. Mark Kirk, who went back on his word, all the more disappointing. Sen. Kirk said he would support restoring these benefits if both sides could find a way to pay for them. The Senate found a bipartisan approach, and yet, Sen. Kirk cast the deciding "no" vote. Tweet at Senator Kirk right now and let him know he let you down: Because of 39 senators, Congress is continuing to leave 102,429 Illinoisans without this critical lifeline. We're going to keep putting the pressure on Congress to do the right thing and create more economic opportunity by restoring these emergency unemployment benefits, raising the minimum wage, and finding ways to close the gender pay gap. That starts today, with holding Sen. Kirk accountable for his vote. Tweet at Sen. Kirk right now and say how disappointed you are that he went back on his word: http://my.barackobama.com/Hold-Senator-Kirk-Accountable Thanks -- more soon, Nico Nico Probst Director of Special Projects Organizing for Action P.S. -- Tomorrow afternoon, OFA supporters are gathering in Chicago to make sure Sen. Kirk knows how disappointed we are in his vote. Click for the details -- pass it along or RSVP to join in. | |
