Three Million Data Centers in the U.S. There's no doubt that failing to focus on energy efficiency in the data center will continue to drive energy use higher and higher. That said, with just a small decrease in energy usage (via a small increase in energy efficiency), organizations can begin to save a considerable amount of money. In fact, it's estimated that a 20% decrease in energy usage could result in about $2 billion in cost savings by 2020 within the U.S. Not a bad payback for a relatively small decrease in energy usage.
