The association of settlers from Medano Beach in Cabo San Lucas, filed a complaint against a gang of pick pockets who stole from three foreigners, while they ate, drank and had fun at Mango Deck restaurant and Edith's, in full spring breakers high season. The tourists explained that one of the two criminals, was stealing the items, while another covered the tourists with a gun, and another waited in an old white boat, which had just arrived at the place. The Captain of the boat stated that once they had finished the robbery, one of the criminals approached his boat, started it and steered it out of the cove, when almost at the entrance, they seized another of the companies boats, "El Tecolote", where they borded and gave an ultimatum to the tourists on board, threw them to the deck of the boat and stole their belongings and a communication radio. According to preliminary investigations the other vessel had seven tourists more on board. After the second assault, the modern pirates returned to where their first victims were, aboard a boat of the company named Marlin Adventure, they tried to steal that boat but it had been securely anchored. According to the complaint, at that time "we saw that two more boats were arriving, and thinking there were about to flee, they jumped onto another boat named "Low End", robbed six more tourists and stole their belongings and motor keys. According to testimony, the three attacks occurred in a space of 15 to 30 minutes. They managed to find the boat stolen that day, after it was abandoned in an area of Mangrove between La Paz and Pichillingue, where some belongings of the tourists were found. The head of the Attorney Generals of Justice of the State, (PGJE) cited that from the time of the robbery, there were in permanent contact with the Secretary of State for Tourism, that they attended to the victims and immediately established a search for the thieves, unfortunately with no results. The assault was captured on the security cameras in the restaurant, where they captured images of the faces of the two criminals when they left running and pulled off their masks before entering their vehicle. With the faces of the robbers, the Los Cabos Municipal Police and the State Ministry mounted a search operation, for the men who they caught the following day and identified as: * Jose Luis Valenzuela Flores, 26 years of age, living in Villa Mallorca, Manzana 15, Lot 34, in the Villas de Cortes Colonia in San Jose del Cabo. * Hector Manuel Dominguez Morales, 27 years of age, living at Avienda de los Rios and Sobarzo Loaiza number 449, in the Luis Donaldo Colosio Colonia, in Puerto Penasco, Sonora. Early investigation lines indicate they were from the same Zona Norte retail drug distribution cell as 'El Mono', it is unclear if they were tienderos themselves, or in upper tier positions.  'El Mono' appeared to have fallen out of favor in the last few years, a series of arrests, and upheaval in the power in Tijuana, left him apparently without many friends. The 4 arrested were detained after a brief chase in a Toyota Corolla, carrying two firearms. Their names: Jose Manuel Gutierrez Carranza, 33, Raul Rosas Vega, 38, Salvador Pineda Beltran, 18, and Israel Cornejo Gonzalez, 33. All 4 have criminal histories for drug crimes, and are belived to be part of Mono's Zona Norte cell. Comments and rumors indicate Mono was displaced and kidnapping and maintaining small tienditas to keep afloat, and had largely been useless and irrelevant as a boss of the Zona Norte, on behalf of CAF or anyone else. It is worth nothing his death comes roughly a month after a body with an icepick through the abdomen, displayed a message stating 'Zona Norte is Cartel Arellano'. Mono's own people could have taken him out for a number of reasons, contracted to do it, with promises of succeeding him, personal or business disputes, it remains unclear for now. It is likely the detainees will make statements regarding the killing, and on whose behalf they were working. Also, unknown whether this relates to a 'cleanse' as promised in both the banner in Zona Norte, on March 7th, or the recent ones in Otay, and elsewhere, alluding to a 'New Tijuana Cartel', in allegiance with Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion. The banners directed threats against Sinaloa and their allies, Mono could have been killed for switching sides, or because he wouldn't, or even his own people had enough of his ways. The Houston cop once recognized as the city's officer of the year led a double life as a cocaine trafficker with ties to a notorious Mexican drug cartel, authorities claim. Sealed indictments were opened on Wed. that showed federal charges of conspiracy to possess firearms connected with a drug trafficking offense and conspiracy to distribute five or more kilos of cocaine. Court documents accuse him of conspiring with Sergio Grimaldo, the brother of a convicted cartel boss, to distribute five kilos of cocaine in southeastern Louisiana. His co-defendant, Grimaldo, 32, was previously indicted along with his brother, Efrain Grimaldo, a member of Los Zetas, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Louisiana confirmed in an email, according to The NY Daily News. Efrain was convicted of drug conspiracy charges in February 2014 and sentenced to 33 years in prison. The case against Sergio Grimaldo, who is in custody, remains open, and Juarez was named as a co-defendant in the indictment originally filed under seal on April 2, records show. The charges against Juarez, unsealed on Wednesday, tell little about his alleged role, but police sources told KTRK the former hero cop worked as a hired gun for a drug cartel, escorting narcotics shipments across state borders. If convicted on all charges he faces up to life in prison and a $10,000,000 fine. Court documents accuse Juarez of beginning his drug trafficking operation in 2012. The indictment came out of New Orleans, where investigators have been working in conjunction with Houston authorities since 2014, according to court records. There are a number people, including law enforcement officers, being investigated, but the FBI wouldn't comment at this time.  Juarez was arraigned on Wednesday, appearing in shackles at the federal courthouse in Houston, according to local media reports. The cop has a bond hearing on Monday but remains in custody, though he has been suspended "with pay" for now. Prosecutors have claimed that Juarez is a "flight risk" and a "danger to the community," but his attorney, George Murphy, claims those assertions are baseless. "He has a long history of law-abiding conduct, he has a big support group and family that is going to make sure he shows up in court," said Murphy. "So I don't think they will be able to prove he won't show up in court." Murphy went on to state that the case against his client is flimsy at best. "They haven't put any meat on the bones, this is the most bare bones indictment I've seen in a long time," Murphy said. "All they're doing is saying he's done these things, and they haven't put any meat on the bones," defense attorney George Murphy said. "This is the most bare-boned indictment I've seen in a long time."  |
