HP Networking's Haas aims at simplicity
Marius Haas, senior vice president and general manager of HP Networking, has had a good year. In 2010, Hewlett-Packard closed its acquisition of 3Com, dramatically expanding its networking portfolio and sales, and also continued to log progress with its own LAN products. In the company's fiscal fourth quarter, which ended Oct. 31, HP's networking revenue grew 227 percent with the former 3Com portfolio included. Even without the new offerings, sales grew 50 percent from a year earlier. This week, Haas took time to talk with IDG News Service about that growth and the company's vision for networking. Solid state drives no better than others, survey says
Solid state drives (SSD) appear to be as unreliable as traditional hard disks. In fact, they're marginally less reliable: Taken as an average across models, 2.05 percent of SSDs got returned as non-functioning, compared to 1.94 percent of hard disks. Read More

Dell agrees to buy Compellent for $960M
Dell has agreed to buy virtualized storage vendor Compellent Technologies in an all-cash deal worth $27.75 per share, a little more than the $27.50 per share price tag it was discussing with the company last week, but still lower than the stock's Monday-morning opening price of $28.30. Read More

NAS iSCSI Network Storage said...

NAS systems are affordable and can also be implemented via iSCSI, but from a financial point of view this only makes sense if an iSCSI-based storage solution is to be set up anyway. On the other hand, iSCSI targets can also extend the storage capacity of a NAS server - although this requires an iSCSI initiator on the NAS server.
