CSOs lasting longer, but still out after three years
The lifespan of corporate CSOs is increasing, with the average stay about 36 months, up from 24 months just a few years ago, attendees of CSO Bootcamp at Interop Las Vegas’ were told this week.

At Interop, networking is a religious calling
In less than a month, Robert Ballecer will be ordained as a Jesuit priest, but this week he will use his skills as an engineer to lead the monitoring and management of one of the world’s largest temporary networks. Ballecer’s presence behind the scenes of the InteropNet, the network that powers the Interop conference, may seem a curious one in a world where scientific knowledge and religious belief are often considered at odds.

Don't sniff at used network gear, dealers say
While many among the 400 exhibitors at Interop this week trotted out new network gear, members of UNEDA would rather talk about the old stuff. The United Network Equipment Dealer's Association, a group of used-equipment resellers, held its second annual conference in Las Vegas the weekend before Interop. UNEDA board members spoke with Network World editors about the state of the market for used network gear, and how UNEDA is looking to change perceptions about the aftermarket for Cisco and other network hardware products.
