Cisco co-founder launching optical network start-up
Cisco co-founder Len Bosack is launching a company that claims it will bring “fundamental change to worldwide telecommunications” with an optical transport system allowing IT departments to easily and quickly deploy in-house metropolitan optical networks that make efficient use of space and power.

Credit card thieves donate to charity
Symantec says it has noticed an increase in the use of stolen credit cards to make charitable contributions as a way to check out whether card numbers are legitimate before the thieves attempt to sell them or make large purchases with them.

Nortel plans wireless product line
Nortel will challenge Cisco by designing and building its own line of 802.11n wireless LAN access points and controllers, and tying these into its Wi-Fi mesh nodes and WiMAX wide-area gear.
