Microsoft in compliance with 2004 ruling, EU says, 10/22/07: Microsoft has made substantial concessions to the European Commission, finally bringing the company into compliance with a 2004 antitrust ruling, the Commission said Monday.

What’s holding Vista back?, 10/24/07: Adoption of Microsoft’s Vista isn’t slipping because of technical gotchas, but rather because of the repeated delays that have knocked it out of sync with corporate upgrade cycles. That has led many companies to sit tight on standardized Windows XP desktops, according to users.

Four more states want Microsoft oversight extended: New York, Maryland, Louisiana and Florida have joined the "Microsoft oversight" bandwagon. They, too, have submitted a plea urging a federal judge to extend judicial oversight of Microsoft for five more years.

Microsoft extends Dynamics support, promises roadmaps, 10/24/07: Microsoft announced a major support upgrade, clearer road maps and a new financing option for its Dynamics range of business applications on Wednesday.

Microsoft adds mobile, single sign-on support to Live ID, 10/23/07: Microsoft Tuesday expanded the capabilities of its Windows Live ID service by adding support for single sign-on for its Windows Live services and making it possible for users to sign up for an ID from a mobile device.

Microsoft talks strategic acquisition plans, 10/18/07: Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer today said the software giant will likely buy 20 or so companies a year for the next five years. Most of them will be what Ballmer characterized as “footnotes,” that is companies in the $50 to $200 million range. Ballmer said such acquisitions are more strategic to the company than large ones. There aren't many companies in the $6 billion to $15 billion range the company would want, Ballmer said in a question and answer session at the Web 2.0 conference in San Francisco.

Microsoft, Turbolinux to push single sign-on, 10/23/07: Microsoft and Turbolinux, a Tokyo-based Linux distributor, are cozying up with a patent cross-licensing deal and agreement to work more closely together, the companies said Tuesday.

Microsoft shows shaved-down kernel for next Windows OS, 10/19/07: The core code for Microsoft's Windows OS is undergoing a rewrite to make it slimmer for use in a wide range of future products, including Windows 7, the OS that will succeed Vista.
