* TOP PICK OF THE WEEK:

More Microsoft license validation problems
Here’s another little gotcha with Microsoft license validation, discovered by Microsoft Subnet blogger Tyson Kopczynski. The Microsoft Office 2007 add-on site refuses to download legitimate add-ins for Office 2007 when a legitimate – but not yet activated – additional Microsoft product is installed on the computer. In Kopczynski’s case the product was Visio. He writes: “Dear Microsoft, By making the usage of your software a hassle, you risk further pushing more users of your applications to other solutions.”

Ron Colonna – Microsoft Certification/Training Corner
What marks a good trainer from a bad one?
“If you have the right personality and opportunity, training can be a great career. If it doesn't mesh so well though, it can be horrible … the hours can definitely be long. Depending on how many different courses you teach, you may be spending a lot of time and effort trying to keep the information in your brain.”

John Obeto – Notes from a Microsoft fan
Windows Genuine Advantage
“Isn’t the customer always right? CS 101: always endeavor to give satisfaction. One PR thorn in Microsoft’s side has got to be Windows Genuine Advantage, WGA. I empathize completely with Microsoft on the issue of piracy. However, taking a page from the RIAA is so not the way to go.”

Chris Dalby – The Essential Microsoft Toolkit
Communicator Mobile Released
“Communicator Mobile has been Released to Web (RTW) which gives you the ability to install the Office Communicator client on your mobile device … I think this is a great concept and I will be trying it out with OCS. It basically gives you the ability to always have an online IM presence.” Also see:

Sue Hanley – Designing collaboration projects
Software deployments take a village …with multiple points of failure
“All IT deployments require a close collaboration between IT and the end user department, but none more so than ERP and payroll applications ... This story reminded me of the old joke – the one where the punch line is that the 'operation was a success but the patient died.'”
