Cisco working with two carriers to test content delivery platform supporting wired and wireless devices Unstrung - the news Web site that was the first to publish speculation that Cisco was eyeing up WiMAX base station vendor Navini for purchase - is now reporting that Cisco is working with one North American and one international Tier-1 operator to test a "network delivery system that can push applications and content over 'any network' to 'any device' - wired or wireless." Details are sparse as to what the technology involves and who the partners are, but Unstrung reports that the system is "intended to deliver content across cable/DSL, 2G and 3G cellular, and WiMAX networks." Cisco reveals more details of its social networking platform Cisco has releasesd further details of EOS its Entertainment Operating System for delivering multimedia content to online communities. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, EOS will "monitor consumers as they interact on the communities with each other and with media, eventually offering recommendations for other content from across the Web." The platform will also feed advertising to community members based on their activities. Cisco will host the software of which customers will pay a monthly fee. Online communities run by the National Hockey League and auto-racing organization Nascar will pilot a scaled-down version of EOS. Aruba finds a way into Cisco accounts Aruba's $37 million acquisition of wireless LAN management maker AirWave Wireless gives it a foot in the door of Cisco customers, where Cisco is popular, reports Network World's John Cox. Aruba says the buy gives it "the tools to apply its 'unified network' concept across the various wireless topologies and technologies that enterprises are adopting, and blend these more seamlessly with the existing wireline infrastructure." AirWave's product is one of a few that can manage different brands of equipment, and one of even fewer that can manage different types of wireless networks including mesh and WiMAX.
