The United States Department of Justice announced today the arrest of Albert Gonzalez, a 28-year old Miami man, in the largest identity theft prosecution on record. Gonzalez is accused, along with two as-yet-unnamed Russian co-conspirators, of compromising more than 130 million credit and debit card accounts from a variety of targets including Heartland Payment Systems and 7-Eleven. Employers are increasingly putting the brakes on employee use of social networking sites on the job, according to a new survey. The research, released Wednesday by ScanSafe, a provider of SaaS Web security, said its data shows more employers are blocking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. The results run counter to a story published by CSO in March 2009 that cites research which found most employers do allow access to Web 2.0 in the office (See: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn: Employers Warm to Web 2.0 Access).

State regulators in Massachusetts have made changes to a set of identity theft regulations.

But while the H-1B and L-1 Visa Reform Act, introduced by Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Dick Durbin (D-IL), remains in congressional committee, U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS), the agency that administers the H-1B and L-1 visa programs, has been increasing its anti-fraud enforcement efforts in response to reported abuse of the temporary worker programs.

The IEEE standards group today announced an effort to bring security vendors together to collaborate on early-stage technologies.

Consortium proposes a way to secure DNS
A consortium of organisations have banded together to develop software aimed at making it easier for companies to deploy the DNS security standard DNSSEC. A team comprising Nominet, .SE, SIDN (respectively the Swedish and Dutch Internet registries) and various others have combined to produce OpenDNSSEC, software that the developers claim will reduce the pain of implementing DNSSEC.
