HP buying 3Com to take battle to Cisco The Cisco Subnet blog: HP is acquiring 3Com for $2.7 billion to fill out its data center product portfolio and customer base, a move that clearly has Cisco in its gunsights. HP's reasons for buying 3Com Brad Reese: I am not a fan of consolidation in the networking industry, as I believe customer needs are much better served by those networking vendors whom operate as independent companies. So naturally, I'm none too pleased that HP is buying 3Com.
