Put your name in the permanent record, Joe

Joe --

One of the perks of spending decades in this business is that I've had a front row seat for some of the biggest fights of our time.

At the top of that list is health care reform.

I remember well the efforts of Senator Ted Kennedy. I watched as countless other leaders -- many of them presidents -- tried to get it done. And I remember back in 2007, hearing then-Senator Barack Obama talk about why this cause was so personal for him.

I was in the room, only a few yards away, when President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law. It's still one of the proudest moments of my life. That kind of lasting change that would help millions of people is why I got into this line of work in the first place.

It took generations of organizers to get the job done. But because we all fought for it, millions of Americans are better off right now.

I'm so happy to know my name will be a part of OFA's permanent record of people who helped make health care reform a reality -- will you add your name today, alongside mine?

I still remember hearing from a lot of people back in 2009 and 2010 that health care reform would never happen. They'd seen the generations before come up short.

We got the job done because there was a long line of progressive organizers who worked hard to lay the groundwork. And because people like you never gave up.

There's no better evidence of that than the way that so many of you helped spread the word about getting covered over the last six months, in spite of a well-funded opposition that wanted nothing more than to scare people out of getting health insurance.

More than 8 million people signed up for health care through the marketplace, because of what you did. That's incredible.

Just as I look back at the people who came before us, I hope future generations will look back on what we accomplished and remember what exactly is possible when people come together to fight for what they believe in.

That's something you should be part of -- join me and add your name to the permanent record of folks who made health care reform a reality:

Thank you so much for everything you did to get us here,

P.S. -- All of these names will be showcased in a brand-new installation at OFA's national headquarters in Chicago. It's going to be pretty special -- make sure your name's on it today.
