Wednesday: Call supporters in Washington state

Organizing for Action
Joe --

When it comes to preventing gun violence, sometimes it seems like there's nothing we can do.

But this Wednesday, you have a chance to make an impact.

OFA volunteers across the country are calling supporters in Washington state to encourage them to support Initiative 594, a proposed ballot initiative that would close dangerous loopholes in background checks for gun sales.

Folks are coming together this Wednesday to make some calls -- RSVP to join a phone bank in Chicago to ask Washingtonians to pledge their support for Initiative 594.

Here are the details:

What: Phone bank for Washington state's I-594 in Chicago

Where: 2204 W Greenleaf Ave.
Chicago, IL 60645

When: Wednesday, July 23rd
7:30 pm

RSVP now

While progress is being blocked by a minority in Congress on this issue, we're taking the fight to cities and states where we can make progress -- right now, that's Washington state. And if this measure passes, we could see support for more initiatives like it crop up across the country.

More than 70 percent of Washingtonians support Initiative 594, because it's a common-sense measure to protect our families and communities -- but the gun lobby has jumped into the fight, and they're doing everything they can to spread confusion about it.

In fact, they even proposed their own competing ballot measure -- Initiative 591 -- which wouldn't just affect this measure, but would also roll back laws that are already in place.

There's a lot of confusion out there, which is why it's so important that people like us fight back and talk to Washingtonians one on one about what this is all about.

We'll be working alongside our progressive allies and coalition partners in Washington state until November, but we need your help Wednesday.
