Cisco bets a billion dollars on India

Cisco plans to invest $1.1 billion in India over the next
several years. Let's see, in rupees, that's... well, it's a
boatload of cash no matter how you slice it. Most of it is
headed for R&D and venture capital investments in Indian
companies.

High-tech dorms move to head of the class at colleges

Student dormitories at Case Western Reserve University and Duke
University show how living on campus increasingly means being
networked and digitized. The residence halls incorporate
sophisticated wired and wireless data networks, environmental
and building management systems backhauled over the campus IP
network, and a wide range of services such as streaming video,
networked clothes washers and improved cellular voice coverage.

IBM taps VMware, Citrix to create blade PCs

After spending the past few years on the sidelines, IBM
Wednesday jumped headlong into the blade PC market, announcing
partnerships with Citrix and VMware to provide users with the
means to manage desktop PCs from a secure, centralized location.

Oracle patches 88 holes in quarterly security update

Oracle released a bundle of critical security patches for its
software Tuesday, fixing 88 vulnerabilities in products
including its database and application servers and some
PeopleSoft and JD Edwards applications. Oracle recommends
applying the patches as soon as possible.
