Robert Cialdini, Regents Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Marketing at Arizona State University and president of the consulting firm Influence at Work, is considered the leading social scientist in the field of influence. His 2001 book Influence laid out the six principles of persuasion, and discussed misuse of persuasive techniques.
