Apatzingán killings were by "federal death squads, similar to Tlatlaya".

Posted: 07 Jan 2015 11:45 PM PST

by Lucio using Reforma, Facebook, Despertar and Michoacan3.0

According to witnesses the victims were unarmed.  Others say, the victims were gunned down without provocation; witness are unwavering when they say,  "the victims were executed".

An account from a witness said, three victims had their hands behind their necks in a position of surrender,  and they were unarmed, when killed.

One was in a kneeling position, with his hands clasped behind his neck.  They pleaded with the federal police not to shoot, but three loud booms emitted and the men were killed.

These were a few of the  events in Apatzingán, Michoacán, where 11 people were killed yesterday morning, which is suggesting to many of it being  another  'Tlatlaya 22'.  There were two events recorded 1 death and 2 injuries in the one incident, 10 dead, 2-4 injured and 44 arrested in the other.

The exact number of dead is elusive, from 9 to 20.  Padre Goyo López, himself of Apatzingán, reported there were over 17 casualties.

Today federal deputy Ricardo Monreal spoke to the press and was resolute.

The deputy said that in both cases, victims were tried and executed at the hands of federal forces.  Adding that in both cases federal forces sustained no injuries or deaths. (Reforma has a report of 2 federal elements with minor injuries)

Even if in a case it is suspected that subjects are suspected criminals, or otherwise, forces must allow criminal proceedings process to proceed.  To circumvent the process, the deputy says,
"Is the worst barbarity that can happen in any country. Death squads covered, paid and protected from the Mexican government are acting without contemplation and without securing the rule of law. "
He explained;  "Human rights in the country are in the most critical phase of the modern period."

He argued that the federal Commissioner Alfredo Castillo is a "burden" to Michoacán, because he has been given to the entity neither peace nor tranquility."

"Instead, Michoacán is in an authentic Civil War, pitted against each other, civilians against civilians, families against families,  it has only separated people and compromised co-existence."

The deputy then spoke of Alfredo Castillo and the federal involvement in Michoacán, saying;
"This was a fiasco gentleman. He should not be there, this should be rectified immediately and he should render his resignation."
The video compilation of footage: After the killings, citizens rebuke the actions of the federal police, speaking directly to them. Part 2 of the video is footage is described as civilians fleeing the attack by the army and federal police.

Murder Rate up in Nogales for 2014

Posted: 07 Jan 2015 12:03 PM PST

As reported by Nogales International

Murders in Nogales, Sonora rose sharply in 2014, according to a report published Tuesday in a local newspaper.
Citing the "system of reporter statistics in regard to insecurity," the paper Nuevo Dia reported 74 murders in Nogales, Sonora last year.  The same newspaper, citing its own tallies, reported a year ago that there were 50 murders in the city in 2013, a decrease from the 58 it documented in 2012.

The Hermosillo-based daily El Imparcial reported last year that it had tallied 44 murders in Nogales, Sonora during 2013, a slight increase from the 42 it counted in 2012.

Despite the apparent jump in murders last year, the numbers still reflect a significant drop from 2010, when the Sinaloa drug cartel run by Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman set out to take back territory that had been controlled by Arturo Beltran Leyva, the kingpin killed by the Mexican military in December 2009.  El Imparcial reported 226 murders in Nogales, Sonora in 2010 and Nuevo Dia counted 236.

According to the report published Tuesday in Nuevo Dia, murders rose statewide in Sonora, from 612 in 2013 to 635 in 2014.

Nogales, Sonora had the third-most murders among Sonoran cities, behind Cajeme with 175 and Hermosillo with 102.
Note
While this article did not speculate why the murder rate rose, the following excerpt from Progreso's article "Pese a los reveses, el Cártel de Sinaloa se mantiene incólume", based on information provided by Al Laurita, a special agent in charge of the DEA office in Tucson, should be taken into consideration:

With the capture of El Chapo on February 22, 2014 and Ismael Zambada, El Mayito Gordo (son of El Mayo Zambada) November 12, in Mexico some people and entities, including the government of  Enrique Peña Nieto, believed that the Sinaloa Cartel had been shattered.

"The only change that we have observed is among the people that controlled the plaza of Nogales
(Sonora) and the one that managed the western zone of the Sonoran desert, and those had the relationship with the Indian reservation of the Tohono O'odham Nation, in southwestern and central Arizona".

According to the reports that the DEA in Tucson has, these modifications were only of people, without affecting the business, because the people that used to manage these plazas were "people of El Chapo" now replaced by "people of El Mayo Zambada".

Brief Timeline of the Hipólito Mora-El Americano Shootout

Posted: 07 Jan 2015 08:37 AM PST

Translated by Valor for Borderland Beat

Marco Antonio Duarte, correspondent in Michoacán for Noticias MVS unveiled a series of videos of the shootout in La Ruana between the groups of El Americano and Hipólito Mora that occurred on December 16, where 11 people were killed, amongst them the son of Mora, Manolo Mora.

Part 1: (0:4)

Part one of the video shows a group of about 30 men mostly youths and teenagers posing for the camera with laughter and yells showing sticks and slingshots which appear to be new.

The footage is being shot from the bed of a truck outside of a grocery and wine store in La Ruana called "Acuario's".  Thanks to a 360 panoramic shot, we can observe how the group of El Americano prefers to show off armas blancas (knives?) rather than the assault rifles and pistols that several men are carrying behind the camera.

Part 2: (0:24)

Part two of the video shows at least 30 vehicles belonging to El Americano's group most of them are luxury trucks that are armored and there are also some with the Fuerza Rural logo.  Outside of the store we can see women and kids as well as two men who are carrying an AR-15 and AK-47.

Part 3: (0:44)

Part 3 of the video shows El Americano's people getting into their trucks and beginning to head towards the checkpoint, while the radio frequency "Dos Metros", a voice is heard inciting violence: "Take pipes, sticks, slingshots, everything.  We're on our way over"

Part 4: (1:26)

It's not until part four of the video where more than 30 vehicles are heading towards the checkpoint of Hipolito Mora, with the voice of El Americano in the radio frequency indicating: "I've had it up to here, the problem wasn't with Hipólito, nor with those, it was with the gendarmerie, so now let them endure it; they are telling us to turn around, let them endure it, to hell.  Everyone come over here". (sic)

In the course of the convoy, El Americano continues, giving instructions prior to the attack: "The problem was with the gendarmerie.  Hipólito brought people, well then, let's show them what can be done with sandbags and what can be done with weapons, to hell". (sic)

Part 5: (2:49)

Part five of the video continues with the convoy of luxury trucks, the Fuerza Rural vehicles, and the vehicles of El Americanoapproaching the checkpoint of Hipólito Mora, located in the ranch of "Los Palmares", along the avenue that connects La Ruana with the intersection of the road Buenavista-Tepalcatepec.

Part 6: (4:32)

In the last video, the men of El Americano have arrived at the checkpoint of Hipólito Mora from the east and attempt to enter from the side, with assault rifles ready to fire.  Unable to enter the ranch, the fans of El Americano return to the road screaming profanity, approaching within 10 meters of the checkpoint to attack with rocks and sticks.

Later, several of his men shelter themselves behind the trucks that they managed to place close to the checkpoint, where their tempers are exacerbated with the arrival of the group of vehicles: a Chevy Silverado, another Jeep Liberty with the number 27 of the Fuerza Rural, and another Dodge Durango, with the Fuerza Rural logo.  Immediately we hear "Draw, draw", challenging Hipólito Mora's people.

The people of El Americano split up their aims and aim their rifles both at the checkpoint and towards the west side of the road, where another convoy has arrived around 50 meters from where they are, until then, it is unknown who's convoy it is.  Suddenly three shots are heard, which triggers the shootout.

From the group of El Americano shouts are heard "Throw the papas, throw the papas", an order to throw grenades.  From this same side, someone tries to yell to hold fire, recognizing that at the other end of the road, there are men who might belong to El Americano and amongst the crossfire, innocent people are also found.
