DEMO 09 companies that work for me There were many good companies and services launched at the DEMO 09 morning session, but the ones that bubble up to the top of my consciousness are the ones that can instantly solve some of my problems as an end user. Kids book aims to get gamer junkies off the couch Having grown up with video games (I mowed a lot of lawns in order to buy my Atari 2600), spending many a night upstairs in my room battling aliens in Laser Blast and roaming the jungle with Pitfall Harry, I certainly understand the obsession that these games can bring (and those were games with not-so-hot graphics). These days, any parents with video-game obsessed kids have probably heard them scream, "I'm in the middle of a level!" or "Just a few more minutes!" when they've asked their kids to put down the controller. DEMO 09: Purewire checks online reputations Purewire's Purewire Trust service lets users check out the online reputation of people, Web sites and things to make sure bad stuff doesn't happen to Web surfers. DEMO 09: SmartyCard lets kids earn if they learn The SmartyCard system provides rewards for tweens if they complete educational quizzes. Also, Keith finds out that he's not smarter than a fifth grader. Security vendor Dr. Web combines mobile, desktop AV Russian security company Dr. Web is offering its latest security product for Windows Mobile free to subscribers of its Enterprise Suite 4.4 antivirus and antispam software. DEMO 09: Ontier's Pixatell The Pixatell on-demand software goes beyond e-mail communication, letting users visually explain concepts much better than just typing out long notes. DEMO 09: Citrix's GoView Keith discovers an easier way to do screen recordings for training purposes, via Citrix Online's new GoView software. DEMO 09: Symantec's MyGuru Symantec's MyGuru service offers the "tech gurus" of the world an easy way to provide technical support to friends and family members. DEMO 09: Xandros' Presto Linux app for Windows that turns an older machine into a Netbook that boots quickly and runs a number of popular Web apps. DEMO 09: Avaak's Vue cameras The Vue personal video network uses wireless mesh technology and lets you place wireless Webcams almost anywhere. CEBIT videos CEBIT: Internet radio to your car via 3G Blaupunkt has new car radios that can stream Internet stations over 3G. CEBIT: Asus shows a dual-touchscreen prototype Asus shows a prototype computer with dual touchscreen.
