Cisco revenue for its third fiscal quarter fell 17% from a year earlier, while net income plunged 21% to $1.3 billion, or $0.23 per share. Read full story

Investment form UBS this week raised its estimates for Juniper Networks, citing improved visibility and order trends in the service provider market, and continuing traction in LAN switching. That means Cisco, too, is probably seeing the same trends; or that Juniper might be taking share from Cisco, as well as others.

Cisco 4Q: a hint of good news
More than the impressive results in Q3 -- Cisco beat expectations in revenue and earnings per share, even though both were down markedly from last year -- it was Cisco's guidance for Q4 that prompts some mild optimism. Cisco said it expects Q4 to be down 17% to 20% from last year's fourth fiscal quarter.

Cisco employee share-based compensation expense defies gravity
Reese: For the first 9 months of FY09, Cisco employee share-based compensation expense defied gravity by climbing to $835 million (a $68 million increase).

Obama tax plan bad for Cisco, other offshorers
A couple of research firms have come to a predictable conclusion on Obama's plan to tax overseas profits: it will be a nuisance, at the very least, for companies that offshore operations, like Cisco and scores of others; at worst, it will disrupt operations and dissolve profits. Obama is proposing the U.S. tax the offshore profits of U.S. companies to raise over $200 billion.
