Review: Google's Nexus 9 is an awesome tablet, with some caveats
Google's Nexus 9 is a nearly perfect device that, with the addition of the (optional) keyboard case, straddles the line between "little tablet" and "laptop replacement."When I say nearly perfect, put a heavy emphasis on the "nearly" part.I've spent about two weeks with this little Android-powered rig and, for the last few days at least, I've been attempting to use it as my primary machine. As both my tablet and my laptop. The results were… mixed. But overall quite good. The size of the tablet is great, though it is a bit too big to fit in (even rather baggy) pockets. But when you buy a 9-inch tablet, you know you're not going to be able to slip it into your pants pocket anyway. So this isn't really a problem. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here Read More

Motorola's new Moto E is a more powerful LTE smartphone
Motorola Mobility's new Moto E has LTE and a more powerful processor than its predecessor, but users will also have to make do with a low-resolution front camera that doesn't measure up to ones offered on competing products. The upgraded Moto E's arrival less than a year after the first version went on sale highlights the growing competition for unlocked smartphones costing US$200 or less. It will start shipping on Thursday in 40 countries and cost about $150.The new Moto E has a 4.5-inch, 540 x 960-pixel screen and a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor from Qualcomm. The original model has a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor and a 4.3-inch screen with the same resolution. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here Read More

6 Things to Expect in the New Samsung Galaxy S6
Samsung's Galaxy S smartphones are consistently some of the best Android phones, and indeed any smartphones, on the market. With the Korean company set to unveil the next generation Galaxy S 6 early next week in Barcelona at this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) event, I started digging around to find the most intriguing, and, perhaps more importantly, believable, Galaxy S6 rumors. Here's a list of the rumors worth paying attention to, and my (decidedly unscientific) estimates on the likelihood that they're accurate.1) Two (Maybe Three?) Different Samsung Galaxy S6 Models The general consensus among rumor mongering tech sites is that the Galaxy S6 will come in two models, one with the traditional smartphone shape of previous Galaxy S phones and another with at least one curved side, à la Samsung's Galaxy Note 4 Edge, which was unveiled with its curve-less sibling, the plain ol' Note 4, last September. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here Read More

INSIDER
Desktop virtualization review: VMware Workstation vs. Oracle VirtualBox
Few technologies have had a greater impact on business efficiency and IT productivity than virtualization. While most of the impact has been felt in the data center and in the cloud, virtualization has also transformed IT work on the desktop, where it retains an important role. Here I compare the two leading products in this category: VMware Workstation and Oracle VirtualBox.In executing tests on Workstation 11, I ran into almost no headaches, and in the few cases an item surprised me, I found useful information in the ample VMware documentation. Good documentation has for years been one of the hallmarks of VMware products. This continues to be true.To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here(Insider Story) Read More

10 Best Tech Jobs in America
The Best Tech Jobs in AmericaImage by ShutterstockGlassdoor recently released its list of the best jobs in America and 10 of the top 25 jobs listed are in the technology sector. When you combine that with the fact that technology-related careers continue to have unemployment rates lower than national average and, according to BLS statistics, tech jobs are expected to grow 21.5 percent between now and 2022, it's easy to see that the demand for highly skilled technology workers is exploding. It is one of the few areas in the job market that the BLS predicts double-digit growth. So whether you're just entering the tech market or you're looking to make a change, the jobs on this list highlight some of the best that this industry has to offer.Methodology: The Glassdoor Best Jobs report identifies 25 jobs with the highest overall job score rating. They base this on a 5-point scale, where 5 equals the highest score. Glassdoor uses its data to determine the weight of the following three factors: Earning potential (average annual base salary) Career opportunities rating Number of open job listings The results in this list that follows represent job titles that rate highly among all three categories:"For a job title to be considered, it must receive at least 75 salary reports and at least 75 career opportunity ratings shared by U.S.-based employees over the past year (from January 1, 2014 to January 9, 2015). The number of openings per job title represents the total number posted on Glassdoor over the past three months (October 21, 2014 to January 1, 2015): Note, this report takes into account job title normalization that groups similar job titles, according to Glassdoor representative, MaryJo Fitzgerald. So here it is -- the list of best tech jobs in America.10. Sales EngineerImage by ShutterStockTo read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here Read More
