LIBERTY ALLIANCE SETS STAGE FOR CIRCLE OF TRUST
Federated identity, a scheme that allows customers to log in once and
access a swath of related services from multiple providers, has pretty
much overcome its technology hurdles. The real obstacle is agreement on
legal and privacy rules that govern how providers should share user data
in order to complete multiparty transactions. That's why the Liberty
Alliance Project, an industry consortium working on standards for
federated identity systems, released a set of federated identity
guidelines last Tuesday.

CA'S SWAINSON AIMS TO REPAIR CA'S RELATIONSHIPS AND STRATEGY
When John Swainson joined Computer Associates nearly a year ago, he found
a company reeling from three years of investigations into accounting
practices that have resulted in numerous indictments and the upcoming
trial of its former chief executive, Sanjay Kumar. President and CEO
Swainson spoke last week to Elizabeth Heichler, editor in chief of the
IDG News Service, on subjects such as rebuilding customer relationships
and CA's massive effort to retool its own IT systems.

PUTTING AJAX TO WORK
It's easy to see why AJAX (asynchronous JavaScript and XML) has captured
the imaginations of so many Web developers. For the first time,
browser-based UIs are rich and full-featured enough to do away with
so-called thick-client desktop applications.

Times are a-changing. Check Point is purchasing Sourcefire. Nessus is

PRODUCT GUIDE: MAXXAN MXV250 INTELLIGENT APPLICATION SWITCH
The MXV250 offers all the sophistication and features of Maxxan's
larger MXV500, but in a smaller and less expensive package suitable for
smaller SANs. The wide array of available features gives admins plenty
of flexibility in meeting business requirements for a SAN. The two
separate management apps for configuration and management may give
pause.
