Research report: The State of Mobile Enterprise Collaboration 2014
Last week, harmon.ie released research results showing “The State of Mobile Enterprise Collaboration 2014: From Personal Productivity Toward the Connected Enterprise on the Go.” The report found that mobile enterprise collaboration is disproportionately focused on personal productivity and task efficiency, with plenty of room to improve how businesses turn mobile enterprise collaboration into a competitive advantage.Among the report’s key findings: Upwards of 90% of IT respondents give employees mobile email access, 88% provide company calendar access, and 82% enable contact directories on employees’ mobile devices. However, only about a third of today’s business professionals say internal and external collaboration tools are available for them on mobile devices. Less than half of business respondents are aware of a mobile device policy in their company, but 83% of IT respondents claim to have one in place. When asked to describe their own IT organizations in terms of collaboration maturity, 21% of IT professionals describe themselves as “Innovators” while 7% of respondents on the business side considered their company’s mobile collaboration innovative. Among the companies surveyed, Microsoft SharePoint/Office 365 is the current enterprise collaboration leader: 44% of all respondents reporting having access to this platform. Half of IT respondents believe that 2015 will be the “Year of Mobile Enterprise Productivity.” About 90% of IT respondents reported that spending on collaborative technologies for 2015 will either match or exceed 2014 levels. Kevin Benedict, Senior Analyst for digital Transformation and Mobility at Cognizant, commented in a statement on the results. “This report clearly defines that many of the greatest challenges enterprises are facing in 2014 are derived from a lack of understanding of the competitive importance of mobile and collaboration platforms, and how strategic these technologies are to their future success. Both IT and Business must become experts in the use of enterprise mobility solutions and collaboration platforms to strategically transform their companies.”To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here Read More

Fire your mobile app programmer and build it yourself
This vendor-written tech primer has been edited by Network World to eliminate product promotion, but readers should note it will likely favor the submitter’s approach. Everyone used to hire mobile app developers to build custom programs, but that often resulted in shoddy, insecure programs that sometimes didn’t even work. And even when the software suited the need, chances are it was a colossal waste of money. Today you can program without programming. Even business people can define and build apps that suit their needs – in just hours or days, depending on the complexity. Or have them built for you for as a low as $500 from a provider harnessing the same automated software creation tools. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here Read More
