Despite HP's commitment to keeping its investments in research
and development intact following the announcement of 14,500 job
cuts, the company has decided to cut four research projects from
its HP Labs organization, a company spokesman confirmed
Thursday.

Sun plans to make all its software free
Sun president and COO Jonathan Schwartz Thursday cited the
company's plans to eventually offer all of its software for free
as a way to build communities around its technologies.
