Beta versions of the two plug-ins appeared Tuesday on Share Skype, a site that attracts developers and enthusiasts who use the openly shared Skype API. After downloading and installing the plug-ins, Skype users should easily be able to access the PC-to-PC voice service while using either Outlook or the IE Web browser. Read this story
American-Style Patents Won't Cross the Pond From eWeek: The European Parliament overwhelmingly rejected the European Union's controversial IT patenting proposal on Wednesday, but what will that decision mean for business and open-source software? The European patent efforts had been intended to standardize the EU member states' laws on the patentability of IT-related inventions, especially software. Search Engines Dive into Premium Content From eWeek: Even as the major search engines have expanded their indexes of the Web to as many as 8 billion documents, they are increasingly acknowledging that much of the world's information is nowhere to be found in search results. To combat that problem, search companies as large as Yahoo! and Google and as small as Groxis and Mamma.com are attempting to put a more public face on Web content previously stuck behind subscription-based sites or hidden deep within a Web site. AMD Files Suit Against Intel From eWeek: Advanced Micro Devices has filed a broad antitrust lawsuit against Intel Corp., claiming that Intel illegally maintains a monopoly in the PC processor market. In announcing the suit, AMD offered a long list of examples in which it says that Intel has used its position, including its ability to offer product rebates or dole out funds, to influence PC makers to limit their purchases of AMD chips.
